4 Reasons Copy is More Important Than You Think

They are just words on a page. Not so, my friend. I have been to websites before where I could not for the life of me decipher what the company was offering.  The last thing you want is for people to be thinking you sell dinosaur fruit snacks when you have a solar panel installation service.  Although pictures can show your visitors what you do, your words confirm.

  1. SEO:  Many people think no one will read what they write on the page.  Not only will         your visitors be reading what you write, but the search engine spiders will crawl your page and place emphasis on certain words according to where on the page you position them.

  2. Tone: What you write and how you write it will convey the tone of your company.  If you are a creative design company you may want to write in a semi-casual tone. If you are selling upscale, rare jewelry your tone should reflect the customers.  Too casual of a tone when selling a high ticket item might turn your audience off.

  3. Relevance:  Please, please, please. Do not use a group of words that are generic.  “We are a sales company working in logistics.” Seriously? You can be more descriptive than that.  What kind of sales? The more specific you get the more specific your customer will get and you have a better chance of improving your site from an SEO standpoint.

  4.  Information:  I put this one at the bottom because it should be the most obvious.  People do not usually go to a website just for pictures (if you are a company).  They are looking to make an informed decision through facts they find on your website.  This is your chance to sell the customer on your product or service.  You words can make or break a sale.
Now that you have seen the importance of copy on your website, you may want to rethink letting you 13 year old niece (who is super smart, I am sure) do all the writing.  High Five!
