Domain Disaster

They did not have the domain name that I desperately wanted, but I settled for something similar.


Wanted: IPsoftwarecompany.com
Acquired: IPanywhere.com

Not so hot of a name.  Might get some very special unique visitors to your site.  Possibly unwanted visitors.  Choosing a domain name that does not say crude things is one reason to choose domain names responsibly.  

Your sites domain name plays a role in search engine optimization.  The words used in your domain are usually given weight, or importance.  A good rule of thumb is to pick a keyword and add a generic term to it.  A good example of this is FlightsCity.com.  In this example the search engine will recognize flights as a relevant term on the site.  

If you use your brand name, like we do, make sure you are marketing your site through outlets like Google Adwords or link building through SEO.  Say your company name is 
Walter’s World of Generic Gum.  www.waltersworldofgenericgum.com is not going to be a highly searched for site.   You are going to need marketing tactics to back it up.  Keep this in mind and go with a keyword domains instead.  

Make smart decisions when you choose a domain name.  Take it seriously and don’t settle for a less than relevant and impressive domain name.
