Fun with Analytics

RocketFuel's Popularity Contest

Some of you may have noticed a little change in Scott Brown's profile today. Allow me to explain that.

Through Google analytics we can view all kinds of information about the traffic to our website. We can see how many hits each page gets.  This is how the competition started.  It appears that Scott's page was the least visited profile and he wanted to fix this.  He posted on his twitter:

"Okay, folks-- contest in the RocketFuel office about whose bio page has the most visits. :) You know what to do. "

Once the contest was announced for the day, Lori went on Scott's profile (thank heavens for a CMS, right?) and wrote at the top, "You don't really want to be here.  Go to Lori's profile instead" and she made it a link to her page.

Next up was the sneaky Caitlin.  She left what Lori said, but changed Lori's link to a link to her page.  Also she announced on Facebook (keeping it a secret from the rest of the staff) that said, "There is a competition going on at the office on whose profile on our website has most hits. Help me out" and this also included a link to her page.

Analytics is a phenomenal tool that can give you so much useful information, but when used incorrectly it can turn things very sour.  On that note I would like to invite you to the profile of the undisputted leader of coolness here at RocketFuel. Rachel.  Vote for me!
