Getting Viral in the New Year

Posted by on December 31st, 2009

Viral Videos are silly.  They are generally hilarious and they get passed around from co-workers, friends and family.  They are also a super cheap way to get a commercial out to the public.  Not to mention, your audience is more qualified as a potential customer.

You can shoot a commercial in your office, in the parking lot, at your home or anywhere else for that matter.  Use a hand held camera and a handful of your employees.  In the world of viral media a budget of $20 can get you more than you think.

On YouTube, videos are expected to be homemade looking. They are expected to be humorous or informative.  You viral video could just be one depicting a "typical" day at the office.  This can give your company an approachable persona.  Potential clients can see these videos and think, "Maybe when I call I will get one of these people on the phone".

What direction should you take your viral video in?  It depends on your company.  We all know the videos that are shared the most are either funny or shocking.  This does not mean yours has to fit into these categories.  If you are a lawn treatment company, you could have fun videos with lawn tips.  Have a goofy character explaining lawn maintenance.  This way your video will be sent around to people who need lawn tips, creating a qualified viewer.  If you are an accounting firm, you might wanna have a video showing your firm having a great time during tax season, because everyone sees accounting firms as stiff and boring.  These are just some ideas to throw around.

When in doubt, talk to a consultant like your local web experts on ideas and possibilities for a viral media campaign.  Getting counseling on how to start a viral media campaign might be just what your company needs. In 2010 you will be seeing a lot more companies using this free outlet for advertising.  Why not jump on the bandwagon, too?
