Google Ads are going to start stalking you

Day 1 of seeing Snuggie ads: We were thinking, “Oh wow, this can not be serious.  This has to be the dumbest thing I have ever seen.”

Day 20 of seeing Snuggie ads:  We were thinking, “Man, it’s so silly, but I bet it’s warm.”

Day 32 of seeing Snuggie ads:  We are thinking, “Which color Snuggie should I get?  I am thinking about throwing a Snuggie party this weekend.  Snuggies for everyone!”

The more you see an ad, the more it sinks in and the more likely you are to buy it.  The same goes for Google ads.  The Google Content Network, which reaches 80% of Internet users, shows Google adwords ads that pertain to the content on the page, whether it be a blog or a news article.  Because most people will not click on an ad until they have seen it several times, the ads will now haunt you as you surf the web.

For example if there was an ad on travel site for a ski adventure package in aspen, you may not click on it then.  But weeks later it could appear on a blog you are reading.  You might be more inclined to click on the ad after it has appeared to you a couple of times.

Based on your cookies, Google will make an assessment as to what to advertise to you based on your “interests”.  If this seems a little too much like big brother, you can opt out or you can assign your preferences as to what kind of ads you would like to be bombarded with.  As for advertisers, you are in luck.  Your ads will stalk potential customers for you.
