How Email Marketing Can Make the World a Greener Place, and Your Business Too
How many pounds of junk mail do you throw away each year? According to ForestEthics, around 100 billion pieces of junk mail are delivered annually around the globe. It is estimated around half of all this mail is discarded. That's pretty wasteful if you ask us.
Direct marketing is generally ineffectual and wasteful (We hope Pizza Hut keeps sending us coupons, though). Direct mail experts tell clients to expect as low as a .05% response or sales rate, according to Small Business Notes. What comes in your mailbox? Are you checking it daily for happy letters from Grandma or a letter from the Pope? Nope. Most likely, you are like us and you don’t open the mailbox everyday because if it’s anything important it is a bill. Yuck. Email, however, is a different story. You have to check your email, whether you are looking for work mail or a fantasy football waiver to process.
Switching over your marketing plan from direct home marketing to email marketing can help make a dent in environmental waste and production waste. You may think, “It is way easier to delete an email message than it is to take the trash out.” Well you are right. This is where you have to bring you marketing A-game. Whatever you do, don’t make the subject of the email something like “Urgent Message for you, Homeowner.”
For an effective email marketing campaign, you must have collected an email list from people who have an interest in your product or service. Then, make an appeal to the current state of your product. For example, if you were selling a house cleaning service, your subject could be, “Too tired after work? Let us take care of you!” It is inviting and does not immediately make the reader think about money.
When writing an email for potential clients, keep in mind the mail you throw out. Take a lesson from other’s mistakes and write with yourself and your potential clients in mind.
Not only will you be saving valuable marketing dollars, but you will be saving trees. See, everyone wins!
