Let's Play a Game: Never Have I Ever
- Never have I ever used templates to build a website. Templates for a web design usually turn out boring and uniform. RocketFuel loves to think outside of the box by creating each site from scratch. Although web template companies offer you a variety of blueprints to choose from that look really spiffy, keep in mind that hundreds of other companies are using that same template.
- Never have I ever created a full flash website. Some might argue that Flash sites are great to look at, but is that all you care about when it comes to your website? Content and functionality are a big part of having a successful website. Also you want search engines to be able to maneuver around your site. A full flash site is not search engine friendly and can hurt your search engine ranking.
- Never have I ever used a drop down menu. Just like a fold down television in a car, a drop down menu on your homepage adds a lot of pizzazz. However, it has to drop down in front of something, generally important information and pictures. A drop down menu can upset the “feng-shui” of the page. Also search engines can not search through your drop down menu and have trouble navigate.
- Never have I ever used a page saying “Enter Site” for the Landing Page. Really, how ridiculous are those pages? Why can’t you just enter the site immediately? I typed the address in or clicked on the google ad to get here. Unless it is an 18 and up site (that’s another never have I ever), the “enter site” button is completely unnecessary.
- Never have I ever felt that fly out menus were necessary. These menus, similar to the drop down menu, pose the problem of getting in the way of the important content on the website. Although they look tricky and give the allusion that a great amount of time was spent on this site, they are not worth he headache and do nothing but junk up the page. This does not trash the sites that still utilize the fly out menus, we just choose not to create clutter on our sites. You know. It’s a personal choice.
