Not All Meta Data is Worthless
It is official. Google has deemed meta keywords irrelevant. However, this does not mean all meta data is worthless. It especially does not mean that keyword research is unnecessary. You will still need to use keyword research for on site content optimization. Having relevant, keyword rich content is a huge part of SEO.
The meta description on a website is still pertinent to search engine optimization. The description is not only considered by search engines, but it is pulled as a summary of your site on SERPs (search engine rank pages). If a meta description is not found, then the search engines will pull the first 25 to 30 words on your homepage. Better make sure those words convey the right message.
Please do not disregard all meta data. The title and description are still important. It is just the keyword meta tags that have lost their luster in the eyes of the SEO spiders.
