Thinking Outside the Box
CMS in a Box that is
Thinking outside of the box. Many content management systems (CMS) are the kind that you buy and install whether it is from the Internet or from a box. This is considered to be an open source CMS. Sounds convenient, I suppose, but what happens when the CMS does not offer the features you want down the road? There is no way to expand your CMS as your business expands. A proprietary content management system can built up to have all the functionality you need and nothing more. As your company grows, your CMS functions can grow. With a “boxed” CMS there is no one to call when you need help or a feature that is not included. It is what it is.
Your website is your most powerful marketing tool, and we appreciate that. Having a content management system makes updating your site much easier than calling upon the powers of a programmer every time you need to make a change. However, having a web-based CMS is even better. If you install you CMS to your home computer, how are you planning to update your site from work or travel destinations? You can’t. With a web-based system you can use any computer, anywhere, at anytime. This can prove to be invaluable if you are on the go, or you use more than one computer.
With our proprietary content management system, RocketFuel CMS, we have the ability to train our clients ourselves. We can go to their offices and work right on their computer or one of our laptops. This brings me to another point. How many Internet downloads will send someone to your house to explain how to use it? None. You might be able to wait on hold for 45 minutes until you get someone over seas to help you. Maybe.
Having a web-based, proprietary CMS is really the way to go for convenience and support. If you have any questions about the great CMS debate feel free to contact us.
