Annesdale Site Launch

From the moment we saw the house and gardens, our creative team at RocketFuel was excited about being hired to redesign the website for one of the most popular wedding and events venues in the area—Annesdale Mansion, in the Snowden Historic District in Midtown, Memphis.  With expansive gardens, 14-foot ceilings, crystal chandeliers, a gorgeous spiral staircase, and over 9,000 square feet of indoor heated and cooled space, this 1850s Italianate villa combines elements of European romantic architecture with vintage Southern charm and is really a must-see if you've never visited.

Client goals

During our rounds of consultation with the client, we learned that they wanted a website that was unlike anything any other competitor venue had.  Our CMS (content management system) allowed us to create that exact site for them, with an original design that reflected the uniqueness and sophistication of the venue. 


From color palette choice to the flourishes throughout the website, our designers used the elegance and beauty of the home itself as inspiration for the website redesign.  For example, the bride’s room located on the second floor of Annesdale inspires the deep blue that was chosen as the main color, and the gold accents used in the design reflect many of the elegant, hand-painted flourishes found within the home. We also drew inspiration from the ornate, original crown mouldings throughout the mansion to create the lines and layout of the new website.

Since the estate provided an indisputably perfect spot for gorgeous photographs, we wanted to showcase these with large photo galleries within the new website.  These photo galleries are easy to navigate and provide visitors with a good idea of all that Annesdale has to offer, for every season of the year. We also included a testimonial module to highlight the many happy brides and event coordinators who have used Annesdale’s lovely setting to host their wedding or corporate event. 

Usability testing

To ensure that we were creating a website that would appeal to Annesdale’s target demographic, we conducted a usability study with several designs.  The design that was eventually chosen was shown to be the most preferred among the targeted demographic—women, ages 25-35, who were either currently planning a wedding or had planned a wedding within the past 2 years. This usability testing allowed both us and the client to choose the best design going forward, before our talented development team started writing the code.
